NO GREATER LOVE
These words were spoken by the Lord to His disciples: “Greater love hath no
man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). Love
is so strong that one would be willing to risk his life to save his friend!
According to Ephesians 2:8,9 grace and faith are both the gift of God. We also
read in Romans 5:5 that God’s love is poured out by His Holy Spirit, which is
given unto us. This is what is called God’s grace! We need not seek after
faith, love, nor even the Holy Spirit – these are God’s gifts to the believer!
Romans 5:6 says that the sinner is without strength; he is hopelessly
unable to save himself from his sinful condition before God! Verse 7 says that
for a good man, or for a friend, some would even dare to die. Verse 8 tells
that God commends – or demonstrates His love towards us so that even while
we were still sinners, Christ died on our behalf!Surely there is no greater
love than this!
The Apostle John said, “We love Him,
because He first loved us” (I John
4:19). We read in verse 9 of the same
chapter that God’s love was manifested
in that He sent Christ into the world
that we might live through Him. How
was this accomplished? In the next
verse we read that His Son Jesus Christ
became a propitiation – that is, a final
sacrifice – for our sins. Christ’s
sacrifice was the fulfillment of God’s
complete satisfaction because this is
the only remedy for sinful mankind –
there is no other!

And were the skies of parchment
made; Were ev’ry stalk on earth a
quill,
And ev’ry man a scribe by trade.
To write the love of God above Would
drain the ocean dry,
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Tho’ stretched from sky to sky.”
Friend, have you received God’s love
into your life? Or, to put it another way,
have you by faith received Jesus Christ as
your Savior? There is nothing more
important in this life than to know Jesus
